General Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary:
Performs skilled maintenance work to all district related facilities and equipment; performs routine servicing, maintenance and adjustment of such equipment as well as other general maintenance work as assigned and required.
Essential General Mechanic Duties:
Knowledge in commercial work such as office buildings, hospitals, hotels, schools and shopping malls.
Performs carpentry work as required to repair doors, windows, roofs, architectural hardware, floors, sheetrock, taping, suspended ceilings, etc.
Commercial carpenter/journeyman a plus.
Performs related general maintenance throughout the school system as assigned.
Performs snow removal duties when required or any other facilities services during an emergency due to severe weather or utility system failure.
Assists with traffic control duties and other tasks related to safety on the campus as needed.
Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing fixtures, valves, and other devices as required.
Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of electrical fixtures, devices, and appliances as required.
Perform carpentry work as required to repair windows, doors, hardware, screens, and furniture.
Observe and report, through the work order system, any and all defects, deterioration, and wear and tear on the facilities.
Assist as required and cooperate with all tradespeople and custodians in the performance of day to day duties and responsibilities.
Follows schematic diagrams.
Estimates and keeps records of time and material; submits requisitions as appropriate.
Assists the Director of School Facilities and/or Lead Maintenance Person with after hours emergencies and performs other duties as assigned.
Performs preventative maintenance procedures on district equipment and systems and make necessary repairs to maintain the efficient, safe, consistent and reliable operation of the district's facilities.
Assist as required with snow removal throughout the district.
Employment Standards:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and any combination equivalent to ten (10) years experience as a general mechanic working or any combination of education, training, or experience which fulfills the requirements of the position and needs of the Weston Public Schools.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Laws, ordinances and regulations regarding general construction.
Computers and programs relating to facilities operations.
Commercial work.
Ability to:
Diagnose and repair buildings.
Interpret and work from building plans, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
Work cooperatively with others.
Work for prolonged periods on hot roofs, in ceilings and in close quarters.
Keep work records.
Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
Licenses and Certificates:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must submit to fingerprinting and full background check.
Commercial carpenter/journeyman a plus.
Working Conditions:
In a shop and field environment must perform heavy work, including pushing/moving items weighing up to 100 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc. one or more stories above ground level. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl through ceilings, under flooring and similar spaces. Must work in inclement weather or other adverse conditions (tight spaces, dust, fumes, extreme heat, etc.). Must be able to drive own vehicle to various district sites.
Supervision Received:
Reports to the Director of School Facilities with general work direction from the Lead Maintenance person.
Terms of Employment and Compensation:
12 month work year
Benefits per AFSCME Contract
Grade V

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
